Woolworths Scam Warnings

Unfortunately there are a number of scams at any given time where the Woolworths brand is used to target customers, asking for personal details. We would strongly encourage our customers not to give out their personal details to anyone proclaiming to be from Woolworths.

To help identify scam patterns and trends in NZ, you can make a note of suspicious calls, emails or texts you receive and report this information to

Netsafe New Zealand. Netsafe tracks scam trends and uses this information for public education, scam alerts and to give to other agencies working to protect people against scams in New Zealand. Netsafe cannot open investigations into scams, but can offer support and advice for people who have lost money or information in a scam. Netsafe has information about scams on their website
www.netsafe.org.nz
.

Scam emails can also be reported to The Department of Internal Affairs’ Electronic Messaging Compliance Team at scam@reportspam.co.nz. Find out more on The Department of Internal Affairs

website. To report a scam to us, please email us at hoax@woolworths.co.nz

Latest scam warnings

There is currently a spam email circulating that is posing as legitimate communication from us. The email is posing as the “no-reply@woolworths.co.nz” email address and directing recipients to click on an .html attachment (in the form of a packing slip) which directs recipients to log into an outlook account.

If you receive an unexpected email like this, please forward the email to hoax@woolworths.co.nz and avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments. The spammers are not associated with Woolworths and are not using Woolworths data. We take customer privacy very seriously and no personal details have been passed or leaked to spammers.

Email

If an email you received doesn't look like an email you'd usually receive from Woolworths, doesn't come from a Woolworths email address, has a .zip file attachment or there is any mention of an international address then this is likely a scam. Customers should be cautious about any email that offers free shopping at Woolworths.

Businesses like Woolworths and other major retailers or airlines are frequently targeted because we have large customer bases and do often run competitions so communications from us can seem quite plausible.

Legitimate Woolworths email addresses include:

  • @comms.woolworths.co.nz
  • @experience.woolworths.co.nz
  • @woolworths.co.nz

Please note that if you have marked any of our legitimate emails as spam, you may be unsubscribed from all Woolworths emails. To reverse this, please sign up for emails again and mark us as a safe sender in your inbox.

Social Media

We will sometimes run legitimate competitions on our social media platforms. These competitions will only take place via the following accounts:

In addition, all of our Everyday Rewards competitions are featured on the

Everyday Rewards site, so you can always check if an offer or promotion is legitimate. If you have any doubts, please call us immediately at 0800 40 40 40.

Text messages

From time to time, we do send out promotional text message communications to those customers who are opted in to receive them. These messages will come from the numbers 800, 4980, 4981 or 4982. To see if you are opted in to get text messages from us, make sure you're signed in to your

Everyday Rewards account, and then check your Text Settings under "Your Profile". Here, you can also opt out of text message communications from us.

For our online shopping customers, you will receive text message updates about your order from the number 4141 for Delivery and 5872 for Pick Up.

Surveys

Woolworths does run legitimate customer surveys. These are either run on our behalf by

Inmoment and promoted via a /woolworthslistens.co.nz website link printed on the till receipt shoppers get in store, or customers would have had to agree to join our survey panel at some point previously and the prizes for these surveys are Woolworths gift vouchers.

We also have a Woolworths Listens survey that we email to customers who have signed up to receive Research emails from Woolworths. To see if you are signed up for Research emails, make sure you're signed in and then check your Preference Hub page by clicking on "My Details".
