Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped finely
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs, chopped
  • 400 grams tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 lemon, zest
  • 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan
  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 500 grams minced beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 lemon, zest

  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 500 grams minced beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water

Method

  1. Step 1 of 5
    In a large frying pan, heat the oil. Add the onion and garlic cooking, for 4 minutes to soften.
  2. Step 2 of 5
    Add the mince, breaking up with a spoon and cooking until lightly brown and the juices have all evaporated.
  3. Step 3 of 5
    Add the herbs, tomatoes, water, tomato paste, wine and lemon zest. Combine well and allow to a simmer for 15 minutes.

    While the bolognese sauce thickens, cook the spaghetti as per the packet instructions. Drain.
  5. Step 5 of 5
    Fold the parsley through the bolognese sauce and season to taste. Serve hot with a sprinkle of Parmesan.
