Easter Egg Buns
Easter means more than hot cross buns! It also means Easter Eggs Buns, a decadent treat filled and topped with lots of chocolate.
Ingredients
- 4 teaspoons dried yeast
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 1 1/2 cups milk, warm
- 4 cups plain flour
- 2 tablespoons mixed spice
- 1 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 60 grams butter
- 1 egg
- 24 soft-centred chocolate balls
- 1 egg white
- 1 1/2 tablespoons caster sugar
Chocolate Sauce
- 200 grams dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup pouring cream
- 4 teaspoons dried yeast
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 1 1/2 cups milk, warm
- 4 cups plain flour
- 2 tablespoons mixed spice
- 1 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 60 grams butter
- 1 egg
- 24 soft-centred chocolate balls
- 1 egg white
- 1 1/2 tablespoons caster sugar
Chocolate Sauce
- 200 grams dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup pouring cream
- Step 1 of 8In a small bowl, combine yeast, sugar and milk. Cover, and stand in a warm place for 10 minutes or until mixture is frothy.
- Step 2 of 8In a large bowl, sift flour and spices, and rub in butter. Stir in yeast mixture and egg; mix to a soft sticky dough. Cover with plastic wrap. Stand in a warm place for 45 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.
- Step 3 of 8Grease a 20cm x 30cm rectangular slice pan and line base with baking paper.
- Step 4 of 8Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced)
- Step 5 of 8Turn dough onto lightly floured surface, and divide dough into 24 portions. Press a chocolate ball into each portion; enclose balls in dough. Shape into rounds; place rounds in pan. Cover; stand in warm place for 5 minutes or until risen slightly.
- Step 6 of 8Place in oven and bake buns for 20 minutes.
- Step 7 of 8Meanwhile, lightly beat egg white and caster sugar in a small bowl. Brush egg white mixture over buns
- Step 8 of 8To make the chocolate sauce, stir cream and chocolate in a medium bowl over a saucepan of simmering water until smooth. Serve warm buns with chocolate sauce.
