Meatballs in Cape Malay Sauce
The sweet and savoury flavours of Meatballs in Cape Malay Sauce make for a tasty twist to a meatball dish. This easy recipe is the perfect way to try something new and bring some spice to dinnertime
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 teaspoons crushed garlic
- 1 green chilli, seeds removed, finely sliced
- 1 teaspoons ground ginger
- 3 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 teaspoons turmeric
- 1 teaspoons coriander
- 1/2 teaspoons cardamom
- 400 grams chopped tomatoes
- 400 grams coconut cream
- 1 packets meatballs
- 3 cups rice, cooked
- 2 sticks cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons oil

- 3 cups rice, cooked
- 2 sticks cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Step 1 of 3Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Cook the onion for 3 or 4 minutes to soften. Add the garlic, chilli, ginger, garam masala, turmeric, coriander and cardamom stirring until sizzling without burning.
- Step 2 of 3Pour in the tomatoes, and coconut cream and add the cinnamon sticks. Bring the sauce to a simmer for 15 minutes. Add the meatballs continuing to cook for 5 minutes or until cooked through.
- Step 3 of 3Remove the cinnamon sticks, season and serve hot with rice.
