Quiet Hour

Quiet Hour is a dedicated time every day when we turn down the sensory volume in our stores. By making a few small changes during Quiet Hour, we help make sure that everyone in our communities has the opportunity to shop for their groceries comfortably, and in an environment where they feel welcome and supported.

What is Quiet Hour?

Quiet Hour is all about creating a calmer, low-sensory space to help make shopping a little easier and less overwhelming. We make a few simple changes during this time:

  • We dim the store lights
  • We turn off the store radio
  • We turn down the volume on our checkout registers
  • We hold off on stocking shelves and trolley collecting where possible
  • We pause all PA announcements (unless there’s an emergency)
Taking an hour a day to turn down the lights and noise is just one way we can support those in our communities.

Quiet Hour is now every day, from 2.30pm- 3.30pm in all our stores.

Who is Quiet Hour for?

Quiet Hour makes a big difference for a wide range of customers, their families, and carers in our local communities. Turning down the lights and noise creates a safe, welcoming space for anyone who experiences sensory processing differences, including Autistic New Zealanders, people with sensory or neurological needs, senior shoppers, or anyone who loves a peaceful shop!
